Position Summary:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Personal Support Worker will work under the supervision of a Registered Healthcare Professional (RN or RPN), in a team-based care model.  As a member of the health care team, the Personal Support Worker provides direct quality personal care to patients in accordance with their respective plan of care. The PSW provides for the individual needs of assigned patients by facilitating, promoting and participating in the maintenance of the patients’ optimum level of physical, emotional, social, cultural, intellectual and spiritual function in accordance with their plan of care. The Personal Support Worker complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.


Qualifications:

Previous experience in a similar role or relevant healthcare setting – preferred

Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with individuals requiring support

Compassionate nature and a genuine desire to help others in need

Ability to perform physical tasks including heavy lifting when necessary

Knowledge of proper medication administration, procedures and protocols

Familiarity with providing care and support services

Experience in hospice care or similar environment is an asset 

Ability to work within a collaborative team environment 

Excellent communication skills; Proficiency in French language is an asset


Education and/or Certification:

Personal Support Worker diploma – required

Registration with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) - required

Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR – required

Certification in Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Patients with Dementia or P.I.E.C.E.S or equivalent – preferred
