Position Summary:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing safe, effective and ethical nursing care for individuals experiencing mental illness. The Registered Nurse in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team will provide client centered care, comprehensive assessment, rehabilitation and treatment to adult patients. The Registered Nurse complies with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience on a psychiatric unit - required
Knowledge of psychiatric medications and Long Acting Depot Injections – required
Excellent psychiatric assessment skills and experience in mental health nursing
Good knowledge of community agencies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all patients, physicians, staff and visitors
Thorough knowledge of nursing principles, procedures and practice in accordance with the standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses and regulations of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)
Excellent communication skills; Proficiency in French language is an asset
Education and/or Certification:
Current Certificate of Registration issued through the College of Nurses of Ontario - required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing - required
Completion of Psychiatric Specialist Certification (RNA) – preferred
